Description:
Camp Encourage is designed for youth, ages eight through eighteen with autism spectrum disorders and targets social and relationship development, recreation, and relaxation. Sensory supports, visual strategies, direct social instruction, and positive behavioral supports are a few of the many important elements that make Camp Encourage unique. Traditional camp activities including horseback riding, fishing, swimming, participating in art activities, and singing by the campfire will be a few of the numerous activities available. Additionally, other camper interest driven activities will be offered which may include chess, lego construction, Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments, Star Wars discussions, role playing games, and more.
Camp Encourage provides an accepting, loving atmosphere and is well staffed with high quality, well-trained counselors, activity facilitators, medical personnel, behavior specialists, and peer models.
It is the goal that participants in Camp Encourage experience increased independence, confidence and self-esteem. It is also a sincere hope that, through camp, each camper finds a place where he or she feels comfortable, is reminded of his or her strengths, and walks away with at least one new friend with common experiences and interests.
