Description:
Heartland Presbyterian Center would like to expand the Camp Heartland program to include 50 additional urban youth, giving them a well-deserved break from city life.

In 2006, we served 122 inner city youth through our summer camp program. At camp, participants can choose from a variety of week-long, residential theme sessions including:

* B.A.S.E. Camps: in Building Adventure Skills in the Environment Camps, youth live close to nature in a week-long residential camp where they will cook most of their meals over the campfire and sleep in platform tents. Other activities include: riding horses, swimming, hiking, Bible study, crafts, worship, and a ropes course.

* Challenge Camps: designed to challenge campers spiritually, socially, mentally, and physically through initiative games, recreation, study, and discussion.

* Horse Camps: learn the ins and outs of basic western riding and horse care by being assigned a horse to care for during the entire week and daily riding in addition to regular camp activities.

* M.A.D.D. Camps: youth enjoy and experience music, various art forms, drama, and dance in a supportive community of peers.

Founded in 1958, Heartland Presbyterian Center is 320 acres of rolling and wooded countryside in (what is now) Parkville, Missouri, just 20 minutes northwest of downtown Kansas City. It is one of the largest summer camp and retreat and conference centers in the Presbyterian Church USA.

Heartland Presbyterian Center is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA), and is a member of the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Center Association.

Annually, the Center serves more than 1,000 youth from second through twelfth grades through a variety of summer camp programs and facilities. These youth come from the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area, Northern Kansas, and Western Missouri and they participate in programming that includes day and residential theme camps.

Our facilities include: eight summer cabins, five outdoor camping areas, dining hall, swimming pool, campfire area, stables, forest and hiking trails.
