Camp WIN is WIN for KC’s flagship youth event for girls ages 6-12. The camp is designed to empower girls by introducing them to at least 14 new sports and fitness activities through teams led by high school girls serving as their “team captains.” Sport instructors come from local universities, colleges, high schools and other area organizations, including KU, K-State, UMKC, and Rockhurst University.

Each day features a Life Skills session with speakers on topics such as body image and healthy eating. This year the camp will include WIN’s Live Active Peer Mentor Program on leadership, goal-setting, teamwork and resiliency.

This is a great chance for girls to learn how to live active and healthy, and to make new friends from all over Kansas City!

Girls become more active, and are more willing to try new things, especially sports and fitness activities after a week at our camp. We measure this change through post-camp evaluations. This has tremendous long-term effects, because studies have shown that girls that participate in sports are less likely to get pregnant and use drugs, and are more likely to graduate from high school and have higher levels of self-esteem.

Camp surveys indicate that 94% of girls said they learned at least one new sport at Camp WIN, and 91% said that they wanted to continue playing the new sport they tried outside of Camp WIN.
