Girl Scout Camp is like a village built just for girls! Through a variety of exciting activities like swimming, horseback riding, rappelling, kayaking, outdoor cooking, sports and games, girls learn to take care of themselves, to take care of others, and to take care of their environment.
Activities like canoeing or hiking are used to teach life skills like teamwork and perseverance. Rustic accommodations including pit latrines and solar-heated showers help girls learn they can live happily without modern conveniences.
Girls truly grow strong in the fresh air and girl-powered atmosphere of local Girl Scout camps. For many, a trip to camp provides freedom from social pressures, hectic schedules, and threatening environments.
Three different local Girl Scout camps offer a variety of programs, options for girls, leadership opportunities, and challenges in a safe, all-girl environment. Camp Oakledge and Winding River Camp are accredited by the ACA. Juliette Low Camp offers a specialized camping for girls with physical disabilities and utilizes the ACA accredited Rotary Camp facility. All Girl Scout camps run in accordance with the policies and procedures of Girl Scouts of the USA.
Oakledge is an aquatics camp featuring sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming programs for girls 9-17. Rappelling, hiking, and backpacking are also an important part of what keeps girls coming back to this 400+ acres of hilly, forested Ozark lakefront.
Camp Prairie Schooner specializes in a variety of programs for younger girls and families. Campers and staff enjoy swimming, rappelling, zip-lining, arts and crafts, sports, drama, nature, and leadership programs. The camp is 170+ wooded acres on the bluffs overlooking the Little Blue River.
Named after the Girl Scout founder who suffered from hearing loss at a young age, Juliette Low camp is specifically designed for girls with special needs and their friends. Girls, ages 8-18 who have physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, etc, may attend. A well-qualified staff of adults, trained and experienced in working with girls with disabilities, provide the very best camping opportunity for each girl.
Winding River is an equestrian camp teaching Western and English riding and leadership. Located on 400+ acres of rolling meadows and farmland, the camp also hosts archery and zip-line activities.
All four camps are run in accordance with American Camp Association standards as well as the policies and procedures of Girl Scouts of the USA.
