Every day the homes, schools and streets of Kansas City are filled with heroes. These heroes are children and teens filled with passion, desire, creativity and dreams. The Kansas City Urban Youth Center (KCUYC) provides a safe space for today’s heroes to see their dreams fulfilled.

Project-based learning activities, performance teams (drama choir), healthy snacks, education, Coretta Scott King Award books, cultural field trips and recreation are provided throughout the afternoon summer program beginning the week of June 18th and continuing through August 4th from 3:30 to 6:30 every day. This seven-week program is designed to invest in the student leadership team composed of six high school students who operate as both employees and facilitators of all youth center activities.

The Center prides itself on its focus on empowering these young heroes of Kansas City to maximize their potential as leaders through dialoguing about racial reconciliation, acquiring job skills, seeking peaceful conflict resolution solutions and positively investing in their peers and siblings.

Volunteers and the heroes of the KCUYC have consistently recognized the Center as a place where everyone involved journeys together to learn more about the world around them through education, experience and service. These young heroes will journey together to dream, break down racial barriers and enjoy the benefits of having a “second family” in the community.

Applications are available for students who are in 4th-9th grade and can be acquired at the KCUYC located at 2732 Troost in the community room of the Courtyard Apartments. The Center gladly welcomes new student, parent and volunteer heroes from the Kansas City community!
