Description:
The Kansas City Diabetes Camp is designed to provide children with diabetes a unique camping experience where they are able to enjoy all the activities other children participate in while doing so in a medically appropriate environment.

Children learn how to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle through various activities such as arts and crafts, swimming, archery, hiking and horseback riding, just to name a few.

Camp is not only a time for children with diabetes to form new friendships and increase self-esteem and confidence, but an opportunity for them to learn the importance of and methods of controlling their diabetes through exercise, proper nutrition and medication management.

The Kansas City Diabetes Camp is held at Camp Shawnee, which is owned and operated by Camp Fire USA Heartland Council and accredited by the American Camp Association. The Kansas City Diabetes Camp is a national program of the American Diabetes Association and receives funding from the United Way, local service clubs, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Camps for Kids and other local foundations.
