Description:
The annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp is a week long summer camp program for children ages 6-21 who are living with a neuromuscular disease.

The Association covers 43 different neuromuscular diseases in its service program and each have a different onset as well as progression rate.

Some of the children who attend our summer program will pass away by their early teens. The program allows for these children to be the norm instead of the exception for one week out of the year.

The entire week is packed full of modified activities that each child is able to participate in regardless of the progression of his/her disease. Some examples of the activities that are provides are; softball, basketball, swimming, therapeutic horseback riding, archery, arts and crafts, fishing, talent shows, bonfires, as well as special guests and special activities that are based on the theme for the year.

Nationally there are over 51 MDA summer programs that take place each year serving over 5500 children with a neuromuscular disease. At each camp the children are paired one-on-one with a camp counselor who has been trained to care for each camper's special needs. Each year the local camp has a return rate for camp counselors of 85% and higher.
Our camp program is not funded by the United Way or any federal or state grants. The association raises money to provide the service program through private contributions like yours.
