Our Mission and Promise:
Young people want to shape the world. Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their spark, life their voice, and discover who they are. In Camp Fire, it begins now.
Everything done at every Camp Fire Heartland camp connects to keeping this promise. Program are specifically designed to reduce sex-role, racial, and cultural stereotypes, and to foster positive intercultural relationships.
Camp Fire Heartland's summer programs give youth and teens a dynamic youth development experience. Participants are taught skills to complement the knowledge they gain about the world around them. Youth enjoy a variety of experiences including swimming, archery, crafts, fine arts, drama, hiking, cooperative games, and of course, campfires. Camp Fire provides ample opportunity for "camper choice," which allows the camper to choose from a variety of activities. This enables campers to take ownership of their camp experiences.
Camp serves many children and youth from the urban cores of Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Particular attention is given to immersing all campers in thoughtful and deliberate programming.
Camp Fire has five specific goals for every camper involved in our programs: 1. All campers will be safe and feel safe. 2. All campers will be provided a fun and positive atmosphere. 3. Campers will learn basic outdoor education skills. 4. All campers will be empowered to help plan their week at camp. 5. Staff will strive to build a strong sense of self-worth in all campers.
